NAIT Makes Second Big Contribution

Knoxville, TN – August 30, 2016

The N
ational Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT) Charitable Foundation presented a check to the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) last week at the Great America Truck Show.  This was NAIT’s second $100,000 donation to the Fund since 2011.

David King, Vice President of Association Programs, presented the check stating, “NAIT cares deeply about our members and the transportation industry in general.  We know these men and women have high odds against them every time they climb behind the wheel of a truck. One of the things we’ve always tried to do is help an individual get back behind the wheel. They need to be working; they need to be going down the road to be able to take care of their family.  We are proud to support the St. Christopher Truckers Fund.  Over the years, we have gotten to know the individuals behind the Fund and see how effectively they manage the funds they receive.  I am pleased to present them with this donation to further they work that they do.”

The SCF’s President, Tom Liutkus, accepted the check stating, “NAIT’s mission is similar to ours in that we want to keep drivers on the road.  The SCF is there to help provide that assistance when they are in trouble with health issues.  I can’t tell you how much this means to the organization, how much good this does, and how many drivers will be impacted in a positive way.”

The SCF started helping drivers in 2008 and has since provided assistance to over 1,600 drivers with more than $1.3 million. The majority of this assistance has been to help pay for driver’s rent/mortgage and utilities while they are out of work.  The SCF also provides every applicant with additional resources where they can receive assistance.
